KBK Community Enterprise Group Ltd.(Kilmanagh/ Ballycallan/ Killaloe)
Our
organisation was founded in 1986 and is a company limited by guarantee having
charitable status. Its primary objective is to promote local community development.
Under our organisation rules no individual is to make any profit from the organisation
and there is no private gain. Upon any winding up of our organisation the funds
are not distributed to the members but have to be applied to socially beneficial
purposes. Currently the enterprise group have a board of seven and a membership
of fifteen to twenty and enjoy broad local support for its full range of activities.
Our
organisation has in the past been involved in the following projects:
Support of locals involved in the Tidy Towns competition.
Provision of interest free loan to facilitate refurbishment of Ballycallan Community
Centre.
Creation,
in the past, of local employment, including support of a small printing business
and a duck rearing enterprise.
Publication of farm accounts books and traders books sold widely, meeting the
needs of local farmers and businessmen and providing funds to support our organisation.
Promotion of the development to its current stage of development of Ballykeeffe
Quarry. There is currently an outdoor auditorium which has been used as an outdoor
venue for theatrical, musical and dramatic presentations and concerts. The venue
has also been used for a rock climbing display and is regularly used as a picnic
and recreational facility by local voluntary organisations such as Camphill, LArche,
school and community groups. Expenditure to date amounts to roughly 200,000 euro,
100,000 of which has been granted by various bodies such as the Department of
the Arts, B.N.S. Leader and Kilkenny Credit Union. We've also won awards such
as the ESB Enviromental Award for transforming what was a dump to its present
status.
